I’ve just concluded my final packing run-through and am about to button up my airline bag. Here’s how it’s going, bottom to top as packed for the plane…
Outer Outer Bag: Eagle Creek “No Matter What” Flashpoint Rolling Duffel, Large
Outer pack, to be carried by porter on trek:
Bottom layer: Large Therm-a-Rest self inflating mattress, Thermo-Lite sleeping bag liner, 1 quart pee jar.
Four Two-gallon Ziploc bags, sorted by type:
Night time: Patagonia fleece socks, Patagonia Down full zip “sweater”, Pearl Izumi two-fingered gloves (from my mtn biking days), Nashbar polyester coated wind/rain pants from my bike commuting days, Bel-wether nylon/fleece tights from my cold weather running clothes.
Daily change: Royal Robbins nylon Expedition style convertible pants (2), Feetures! mid-calf stretch underlayer socks (R/L specific), SmartWool medium weight over socks, Champion SmartTemp cotton/polyester boxer briefs (2), injinji five-toe socks (under-layer, 2 pr), TravelSmith CoolMax V-neck Tee (2)
Pokhara-Jomson-Kagbeni clothes (first two days out of Kathmandu): boxer briefs, Feetures!/SmartWool socks, Prana Expedition style convertible pants, CoolMax T, SmartWool lightweight full sleeve zip turtleneck.
Adidas slip on sandals
Hygiene/Health: Multiple smaller bags – Drugs: Pepto Bismo tabs for pre-meal prophylaxis; antibiotics Ciprofloxacin & Azithromycin; Motion SIckness Dimenhydramine & Benedryl; cold rx Nyquil/dayquil/cough drops. Two-prong electrical plugs and micro USB connectors. Kleenex (small pack), soap, Purell ETOH gel. Hygiene: Tylenol, loratidine, other daily meds, toothbrush/paste/floss, Aquaphor. Bandaids, moleskin, tape, scissors, small needle. Saniwipes. Sunscreen. Mosquito repellant. Shoelaces, carabiners, extra camera batteries and flash cards.
Additional bag for Eagle duffel, containing food items which will go into trek pack for porter: Infinit/Gatorade drink powders; 32/20 oz each per day; 7 Clif Bars; 10 Baker’s Breakfast Cookies; 2 pounds of “trail mix”, with nuts, raisins, chocolate, gummies. Also containing items which may go into day pack on trek: Poncho, fleece pullover, hooded full sleeve lighter weight pullover; Nomad Solar panel and battery pack (doubles as flashlight); moleskin kit; neoprene knee brace; Buff neck/head gaiter; full length L/G bicycle leg warmers; Mylar heat wrap (like you get after a race on a cold day.
Day Pack, to be carried on plane: Mack’s silicon ear plugs, spare pair glasses, toothpaste/brush, lip balm, iodine tabs, Kindle Paperwhite reader, combo brush mirror (folds flat), Tyvek jacket,handi-wipes, hand gel, Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100M3 camera/instructions; combo eating tool/small wrench; various papers. Solar baseball-style cap, with light in the brim. Two bandannas. 32 oz Camelbak Nalgene bottle, 22 oz bidon. Pillow (small)
To be worn on plane and left in Kathmandu during trek: Grey Prana slacks, Nike socks, white shirt and undershirt, underpants.

Weight for Kathmandu-Pokhara-Jomsom (15 kg limit, with 5 Kg excess @ about $1/kg): 16.4 Kg, including trekking poles.
Weight of pack for porter to carry: 9.8 Kg, including 3.7 Kg (8#3oz) food
Weight of Day Pack: 5 Kg not including fluids; with 52 oz water, 6.5 kg/14#. Not including clothes or trekking poles.
Total weight for initial flight of checked luggage: 33.8 #/15.3 Kg. Weight limits are 30 Kg for Emirates, 20 Kg for flydubai
