Two years now since the first warnings of a novel coronavirus. We saw a plummeting stock market, runs on toilet paper and Lysol, canceled plane trips and the first US deaths.
In March, 2020, I decided I would not go around assuming everyone I saw was trying to kill me. I’m 73, I’ve had 3 mRNA vaccines, as soon as I could (Jan, Feb, Oct ’21), I mask up whenever inside retail and other establishments with strangers. But I fly on planes, take car trips throughout the US West with my wife, go to parties with friends, visit with my 3 y/o granddaughter weekly. I continue to participate in outdoor group activities such as running races and bike rides. The only restriction to my pre-Covid life is to lift weights at home and not in the gym.
Life is too short to live in fear and isolation. “Science” will only get you so far. I was a practicing MD for 40 years, and know that our knowledge and recommendations are ALWAYS subject to change and improvement. The secrets to happiness will not be found in JAMA or NEJM, nor from the FDA and CDC.
